The Man In The Sky

I am judged by the man in the sky.
He has taken many faces
The face of my father, my lover, my boss
He has taken no face as God.

He is my safest place, my most ruthless critic.
The pendulum between states keeps me crazy
I can stomach a blow from my foe,  but not from my hero
I am condemned by my ideal

The man in the sky is omnipresent, and keeps me in my place.
The time I ran away from him, I fell into hell.
I screamed for help, he came and showed me the way back.
He is my guardian, my teacher, my gatekeeper.
Afterwards I stayed home for a year,
Though I now knew my door had no lock.

I’m braver now, I go out on my own most days,
Because of and in spite of the man in the sky.
He tries to keep me in, but
I found my wings on the journey back from hell
I soar past him into space
I am supersonic, his voice left behind.

Out here I can see my father, my lover, my boss.
They are humans like me, same size, same blood.
And I can see God, he has my face.
Now I can go home and rest for the night.
Tomorrow his voice will wake me again, instruct me, protect me, fight me.
Tomorrow I will be up to the task.
