To the Sea

I’m sitting on the cold sand, by a small beach house in October
The waves and the rain are pattering, speaking to me
Mom gets as excited about the ocean as I do
I cant tell where the horizon is, the water blends in with the sky

The ocean is one thing that fully consumes my mind
Leaves no room for thoughts
Fills all the crevices in my brain
Every thought losing meaning in the expanse

She explains the nature of life to me as I dip my toes in
Tells me stories without words, of ebbing and flowing and breaking and pushing further to falling back, to covering ground to losing it, to movement driven by invisible forces, to power you would never feel until something comes in your way

How does she keep going and going?  Are the seagulls mesmerized too?
Raw power.  Inherent power.  Not trying to impress or control
Power that’s exploding but obeying its design. Electricity inside wires

In this moment I have no cares, no flaws, no limits
I am born of the sea and to the sea I will return
